Don’t let the stereotypical imagery of falling leaves fool you, this season is anything but your average autumn. Fall and winter fashion plays with textures, colors, old styles and new. We will break down this season by three major trends: fur, stripes and vibrant hues. Aren’t you excited for bearable temperatures and iconic trends? I know I am, so let’s delve into the fashion frenzy.

If you’re like me, you were elated when fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and the Fendi brand unveiled ‘Karlito,’ the furry miniature keychain version of Lagerfeld you can take on the go for a mere $1,700. Cheaper options for furry keychains have also made debut since ‘Karlito’.  Karl is not the only one embracing the fuzz this season; the Charlotte Simone x Kyle De’Volle collection is all the rage on Instagram as singer Rita Ora and fashionista Alexa Chung are spotted wearing stripped fur “popsicle” scarves a month before the collection was made available.

Retailers such as ASOS and H&M were quick to pick on the fur trend showcasing furry vests, scarves, shearling jackets, accessories and clutches in their stores. To add to the fur craze, on the first day of New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015, fur was spotted on the Coach runway. Coach added its own unique twist by showing the fur in pastel colors to rival last year’s Burberry collection.

Depending on how you wear them, vertical and horizontal stripes are flattering on all body types. This season is big on stripes and not just black and white stripes either! When you don the season’s comfiest knits this fall, make sure they have stripes and plenty of pretty pastels! Just because the sun’s heat has gone down, doesn’t mean you have to dress in muted colors and give off funeral vibes. Prints besides stripes also debuted on the Fashion Week runways. Geometric, collage and optical prints spice up the usual monochrome fall ensembles.

This fall will also ignite an explosion of glitter and gold. A perfect example is the Balmain runway. Balmain’s collection is beaded and sequined to no end, making it a fitting example.

Don’t be afraid to go big this season. Tailored clothing made to look masculine is becoming more popular than the fitted peplum and super tight skirts. According to Vogue Paris, the average coat size is expected to be three-fourths longer this season. The “boyfriend-borrowed” look will be perfect for the office as seen on both the Ralph Lauren and Hermes runways.

Lastly, it wouldn’t be fall without homage to Burberry. This season, Burberry’s Christopher Bailey makes our hearts melt with the customized poncho. Rag and Bone also just unveiled a new line of customized jackets.

A trend that was not very prominent on the runway, but will be catching up very soon is customization. After all, fashion is meant to be one’s own personal statement. If adding accessories, sew-ons or throwing a touch of glitter to your wardrobe makes you happy – go for it!
