Coming from Chesapeake, VA, this group consists of seven brothers and sisters who recently released their latest album, “Those Younger Days”, out in June. This indie folk group are making incredible progress with their music. We definitely recommend you to take a listen to their album. We sat down with Jenni, Josh, Justin, Jonathan and Jamison to speak about their music and their plans for the future.

How have you all liked ACL so far?

Jenni: “Second time back to ACL and last year it was our first experience, we didn’t really know what to expect so the nerves were really high. This year we were more excited, and steady, we kind of moved up to a little bit of a bigger stage, a little bigger crowd, a little later in the day. So that was really rewarding for us as a band. To see fans from last year return was great encouragement for us as a band.”

You guys are all siblings, I know with my brother, we always get on each other’s nerves, how do you all seem to get along so well?

Josh: “We’re each other’s best friends, we do get along. We’re all traveling in the same small RV. We get on each other’s nerves a bit but we’re always quick to forgive and forget.”

Your new album just came out over the summer, tell me a little bit about the process of how you made it.

Josh: “We hooked up with a producer, Chris Kuffner, and we actually recorded the album in our home town in some local place. We spent about a week recording with Kris. [We] had a great time doing it and came out with a product we really love and enjoy.”

That’s awesome! This might be a little hard to pick, but which song would you say is your favorite out of this album?

Justin: “My favorite would be ‘Remember Us.’”

Jamison: “Well I have two favorites -- one listening to and one playing on stage. ‘Valentina’ is the one I love playing on stage, and then ‘Douse the Flame’ to listen to.”

Jonathan: “I like ‘Valentina’ a lot, that’s my favorite right now.”

Josh: “Mine fluctuates, and right now a few of the new songs are my favorite. We have a new one called ‘Request’ and another new one called ‘Far’ that we played today. [It’s] one of my favorites to perform.”

Jenni: “One of my favorite songs on the album is ‘Remember Us,’ just the story behind it, with us being siblings. [It’s] about forgiveness and redemption; that song strikes a chord in my heart.”

This is for a college newspaper, and I was just curious if any of you went to college, and if so, what was your experience like?

Josh: “I actually went to college for a couple of years and, right now ,I have a two-year engineering degree. Same with my brother Jonathan. It was difficult doing music and school and touring. That required online college classes, but we’re excited we have that knowledge and those credits. We definitely learned a lot from it.”

How do you all think you’ve grown as artists since you all started?

Josh: “We started writing our own material when we were younger. Our writing has gotten more mature. Our band’s performance has evolved so much. From being little kids, doing it in a performance arts style, and then as we grew older, we slowly gravitated to our own original music.”

Jenni: “There was a transition that happened for us. There was a shift when we hit our teenage years where we felt like there was really something inside of us that we wanted to say and create together. We wanted to be taken seriously as a band. There was a shift that happened that when you look at us 10 years ago, you wouldn’t even recognize who we are today. I’m really grateful for that change and maturity that has happened.”

And lastly, what are you guys doing next?

Jenni: “We’re looking forward to November, we get the whole month off so we plan on writing new material. Jonathan has been designing a music video that we want to put together and some different side projects the band has really wanted to do, but just hasn’t had the time to because we’ve been on the road for months and months. It’s also around Thanksgiving, so that’ll be nice.”
