The Impractically Determined Right Winger

When politics intertwine with morality and jeopardize health care for millions

In the wake of the current frenzy following Planned Parenthood, I can’t help but reflect and really ask myself, “what’s exactly trying to be taken down and why?”

For the most part, Planned Parenthood is a health care provider, a means to female and male sexual health education and an ardent supporter of women’s rights and global human equality. They’re a founding member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, whose mission is to spread the importance of human rights and sexual health education and propose methods leading to the to end of gender inequality. Planned Parenthood is among the few globally recognized, dedicated organized groups of professionals that continue to implement research and attention to the issue of sexual reproduction and human rights in the U.S.

It sounds harmless to me and vital to keep around for generations to come, however conservatives and GOP political officials alike are passionately trying to defund state and city funding of Planned Parenthood clinics throughout all these 50 states.

One man is trying to derail Planned Parenthood.

In the summer of 2015, anti-abortionist David Daleiden breached footage of himself interviewing officials of Planned Parenthood surface. I the video he and Planned Parenthood officials discussed how much body parts of aborted fetuses would be to purchase. The video also displayed an aborted fetus in his hands to the camera.

Daleiden’s plan in catching Planned Parenthood in their apparent maliciousness was to go undercover and pose as a hack company employee desiring information on aborted body parts. For six months he continued this facade as well as six other paid actors whom he hired. However, the 19-week-old baby that was put on camera was tragically stillborn and knowingly used by Daleiden anyway, to specifically stir the audience’s emotions.

How is any of this right?

Not only is this atrociously and offensively deceptive on Daleiden’s part, but immensely false in all of its entirety and right wingers/the GOP are eating it up.

Roughly 3 percent of all the offered services at Planned Parenthood clinics actually consist of abortions. Over 90 percent of the rest of the services are designed to fit the needs of STD/STI treatments and testing, contraceptives, cancer screening/preventing and general women’s needs (pregnancy testing, female sterilization etc.)

Abortions might be on the forefront of everyone’s mind, and how could it not? It goes against every sense of our moral code. Killing babies should always be the very last thing on any woman’s mind. I know it’s a subject I never like to bring up to myself, and that’s because I’m not pro-abortion, I’m pro-choice. There is and will forever be a very distinct difference of the two. Planned Parenthood is a gateway for me and millions of women (and statistically speaking, men as well) to have the choice to do what I deem fit for our bodies. That being said, it’s disturbing to read headlines of potential clinics on the brink of being closed from defunding and that official Medicare funding has been cut off in Texas because this has the possibility of causing a domino effect of sexual health care “reform,” across this entire country.

Essentially, this situation is appalling. Women, some men but primarily women, who have been relying on safe and reliable health care will be forced to find medical attention by Lord knows what other means. Is that what Gov. Abbott really wants women to do? Suffer?

By stripping basic medical needs from women who need it and inputting stricter right-wing agenda into state-wide/nation-wide health policies, conservatives, be them politicians, senators, supporters, state representatives, etc., they are ripping straight through this country’s moral fabric.

In my opinion, a well-intentioned organization is trying to be shaken and broken down to nothing because an unqualified conservative let his good intentioned beliefs interrupt an entire health care system, depended on by thousands.

I hope in the future, matters similar to this outbreak will be handled better on the national level, but I’m afraid things are going to get more grave in this country from this moment on.

Let’s hope I’m wrong.
