Position DescriptionThe Harris County Flood Control District is seeking candidates for the role of Construction Management Intern. Responsible for assisting in performing tasks requiring the application of standard construction techniques and standards while acquiring basic technical project management skills. Assignments are designed to develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.Essential Functions and Duties:* Work at all times under the supervision of an experienced Project Manager* Review and learn from construction plans and specifications* Assist with project-related tasks on construction projects that include, assessing project requirements, implementing processes, and analyzing project performance* Assist in obtaining project data to establish engineering schedules* Review projects prior to completion of plans and specifications to provide constructability evaluation* Prepare correspondence, complete forms, and maintain records and files related to work activities* Gain knowledge of the inspection, testing, and payment requirements for all pay items in the contract* Learn the deliverables required to close out a contract and work directly with the contractor to obtain all deliverables* Gain knowledge of the permitting requirements for various construction tasks and verify that valid permits are held by the contractor for work being performed* Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directsNOTE: Reasonable accommodations will be made upon request for applicants with disabilities in accordance with theAmericans with Disabilities Act(ADA) of 1990. RequirementsEducation* A minimum of three (3) years completed an accredited four-year college or university in project management, construction management, civil engineering, or a similar curriculumKnowledge, Skills and Abilities* Strong skills using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access)* Must be comfortablein a time and deadline-driven environment* Must be a self-starter; assume ownership in completing assigned tasks* Ability to work independently with limited supervision, relative autonomy, and general review* Ability to utilize good time management skills and effectively prioritize and schedule multiple tasks/initiatives* Ability to read/comprehend written materials, use proper grammar, correct spelling and punctuation, phone etiquette, problem-solving, simple formats, and filing systems* Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills* Excellent analytical skills in applying guidelines, policies, and precedents and in adapting standard methods to fit facts and conditions* Excellent organizational skillsNOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge and skills must be documented on your job application.
