This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in Analytics/Operations to develop professionally as well as to enhance their knowledge with regard to the power generation industry, power/gas commodities markets, and all aspects of Calpine functions. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift.Job Summary:The Operations Analytics team within Calpine Corp's Asset Performance Management Department works with the commercial and operations groups to analyze gas turbine based plant performance and propose actionable feedback. The team aggregates data and develops models used to asses Calpine's fleet of power generation assets. Focus is given to budgetary items with an eye on cost-saving initiatives.Project and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:* Provide power plant and equipment thermodynamic performance assessments including identification of improvement opportunities* Support power plant performance testing activities* Support model development to assist in evaluation of plant performance for dispatch and market monitoring purposes* Conduct equipment upgrade and optimization studies* Ad hoc projects as required.Exact projects will be determined at the commencement of the internship.The above statements reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the essential functions of the job and are not to be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.RequirementsCandidate should be working on a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or other STEM related fields.Knowledge base should cover a significant subset of the following topics:* Able to work autonomously and under the pressure of multiple deadlines.* Completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework.* Demonstrated understanding Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)* Ability to apply analytical tools such as Tableau, Python, SAS, Matlab, C++, or similar.* Demonstrated modeling aptitude creating complex Excel models.* Knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the power or utility sector, is a plus.* Strong verbal and written communication skills.Equal Opportunity Employer of Minorities, Females, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities.Calpine is committed to Equal Employment Opportunity and providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with physical and/or mental disabilities.
