We'll support you with training, employee resource groups, and our shared vision of global security.Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is seeking a Human Factors Engineer Intern to be assist with Human Systems Integration (HSI) and Human Factors Engineering (HFE) design activities for long duration human spaceflight. This HFE/HSI Engineer Intern will report directly to the Human System Integration (HSI) Lead for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) Program.The HSI Intern will support HSI efforts on HALO by helping with cross-cutting human system requirements engineering, technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.Expectations are to assist with the logical and systematic conversion of customer requirements and user feedback into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Direct support of HSI deliverables needed, including but not limited to Task Analyses, Anthropometric Analyses, Human Error Analyses, and crew workload/situation awareness/acceptability of human interface designs. Additionally, assistance with requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications is needed. Directly contribute to all HALO HSI and HFE related deliverables, human-in-the-loop testing/reporting, and sub-contractor interaction and oversight to ensure successful crew interface design. Regular interaction with customer counterparts, system users, and different sub-system engineering disciplines is expected to ensure user needs are represented in product design while meeting necessary requirements.**Qualifications:****Basic Qualifications:**Basic QualificationsA candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2021.Be majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and Human Systems Integration and Human Factors Engineering experienceHave an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2021Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)Proficiency delivering technical solutions/contributions to the completion of project milestones under minimal supervision, and with creating content to clearly present findings to customers and contractors at major milestone meetings**Preferred Qualifications:**Experience with the interpretation and application of systems safety, crew survivability, and habitability requirements to system designSignificant experience with Human Factors Engineering processes, engineering lifecycle, technical readiness levels, and technical evaluation with objective and subjective supportive user dataProficiency in reading/writing test procedures, particularly with Task Analyses and Human-in-the-Loop testingUnderstand systems and design thinking as well as HMI/HCI design principles and practicesExperience with evaluation of human error, anthropometric design, lighting, acoustical, and informational designExperience conducting structured human behavioral evaluations including human error analysis and physical layout analyses and designAerospace industry familiarity or firsthand experience, with a passion for human spaceflightKnowledge or experience with one or more of the following:Human space flight operationsHuman Factors Analyses (workload, situation awareness, and usability metrics and reporting)Familiarity with Human System standards and specifications (MIL-STD 1472, NASA-STD 3001/3001)Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
