The Spring/Summer 2015 shows concluded at the end of January, encouraging us fashion aficionados to get out of our comfort zones.
The ‘70s are back in 2015, and it’s impossible not to indulge in flared trousers, chunky shoes and the all-over bohemian look. Let your inner flower child shine by elongating your silhouette with high-waisted pants. A nice addition to the bohemian look would be a sandal-boot hybrid.
Dare to step away from the basic floral patterns and mini-skirts that typically plague the spring season, forget the comfy summertime sandals and leave your leggings at the gym. Instead, welcome to a world full of Birkenstocks, culottes and clogs. Try bright contrasts and tulle fabrics or opt for a skater skirt instead of the mini.
We are back to celebrating beautiful fabrics, other than the usual cotton and denim. Take a leap of faith and go with the unconventional – velvet, tulle, lace and fur should become a part of your everyday wardrobe.
Although basic floral patterns are something you want to avoid, the art of clashing separate floral designs will no doubt make you stand out in the crowd. So let your creative side bask in the chaos of mix-matching.
Turn the little black dress into a sparkly, sequined or bejeweled party piece. Anything that adds emphasis to your style or outfit will work. Statement jewelry such as disk earrings will also do the trick. They were also notable additions to runway shows at Louis Vuitton and Moschino.
If you’re looking for a way to jazz things up a bit with a touch of the ‘90s, start with a pair of loose-fitting overalls and add a plain white or colorful shirt underneath with long sleeves. A messenger bag will top off the look.
Leather is usually reserved for a night out. So have fun and bust out the leather in spring or summer like it’s not a trillion degrees out in Houston. I’m not saying wear leather pants and a leather jacket in May, but instead try to incorporate leather details like bags or shoes – both of which are really hot right now.
Don’t shy away from textures, colors, styles or pieces you wouldn’t usually wear. The most exciting part about fashion is learning how to style a certain piece or look – let yourself have fun with new and unusual pieces.
This season, focus on building your sense of style by stepping out of your comfort zone and playing with different elements of fashion and style. For more fashion and style tips check out my fashion blog at meandmyfurs.tumblr.com.
