During this time of the year, it seems as if everyone is going to the rodeo for concerts, which entails spending upwards of $50 total to sit far away from the bands playing and freeze in the unpredictable Houston weather.
Many fail to realize that, for less than $15, they could see a jaw-dropping show at Fitzgerald’s Houston while standing directly in front of the stage, and patrons can usually meet the band members afterwards without buying a backstage pass.
I highly recommend that you check out Fitzgerald’s and keep an eye out for when The Beans play there, a group composed of UST alumni.
In an age when electronic beats are the norm, it is refreshing to hear a band that play actual drums and bass guitars, people who are on stage due to endless hours of practicing to cultivate and further their talents, rather than due to wealth and celebrity connections.
The Beans are influenced by Wilco, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, according to the band’s Facebook page.
They are true musicians rather than glorified DJ’s.
On March 7, The Beans rocked Fitzgerald’s along with Sphinx and Children of Pop. Playing a combination of music from their self-titled album as well as new material they are currently working on, The Beans dominated the room as soon as they walked onstage. Their sound is hard to pin down to one particular genre as it courts elements from blues and rock with a bit of funk. However, the rock element to their show is felt the strongest, reminiscent of early rock groups such as the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. Their main success comes from making that old rock and roll sound feel fresh and alive again.
As you watch The Beans play with mesmerizing ease, you will feel the drum beat in your chest and you will not be able to keep from dancing, then you will notice the entire room has been encapsulated by the power of their music. It’s intoxicating.
